Is there a conflict between morality and halakha?
Modern Orthodox Jews are facing unprecedented challenges today in terms of commitment to tradition on the one hand and authentic openness to modernity on the other. Often we find our commitment to Halacha and tradition to be in conflict with our refined moral sensibilities. Rather than attempting to explain away the problems with mediocre apologetics, Rabbi Hefter will attempt to present an honest and novel framework with which to grapple with our modern dilemma.
Rabbi Herzl Hefter is the founder and Rosh Beit Midrash Har’el in memory of Belda Kaufman Lindenbaum, in Jerusalem. It is a beit midrash for advanced rabbinic studies for men and women. He is a graduate of Yeshiva University where he learned under the tutelage of Rabbi Yosef Dov Soloveichik זצ”ל, and received smikha from Rabbi Aharon Lichtenstein זצ”ל at Yeshivat Har Etzion where he studied for ten years.
