Esther Macner, Esq. is the founder and president of Get Jewish Divorce Justice, a Los Angeles-
based nonprofit combating get abuse and advocating for the rights of Jewish women. A former
Senior Assistant District Attorney in Brooklyn’s Domestic Violence Bureau, Esther was
instrumental in the passage of California’s Coercive Control statute, expanding the legal
definition of domestic violence to include non-physical abuse. She also led the revision of the
Beth Din of America’s Prenuptial Agreement for California.

Esther lectures widely on coercive control, including at the 2021 and 2022 America’s Conference
to End Coercive Control, USC Gould School of Law’s Cross-Cultural Dispute Resolution Panel,
and the Hadassah Attorneys and Judges Council (2022). She also served as an instructor for
Break the Cycle, leading workshops for LAUSD teens on dating and domestic violence
awareness. With a background in psychology, rabbinic texts, and law, Esther brings a uniquely
integrated perspective to legal and religious advocacy.
