History
JOFA was founded in 1997, when the overwhelming response to the first, of what has become a bi-annual conference, made it clear that there was tremendous need for an organization that could promote the programs and provide the services discussed at the event. From a small organization, led by Blu Greenberg, that met around a founding member's kitchen table, JOFA has become a professionally staffed, international alliance that has the support of many scholars and leaders in the Jewish world. JOFA's board members live in all parts of North America, and JOFA members are also active in Israel, England and several other countries.

Our Logo
Evoking Miriam's tambourine and the waters of her well, our logo celebrates Jewish women's leadership. The waves emerging from the logo remind us of our dedication to Torah, often compared to water, and illustrate our commitment to continually moving forward while remaining connected to our past.
